Be a fool

Every fool’s breath draws them closer to where they need to go – down the path of the unknown.

Be a fool. Don’t be afraid to not know everything. Advance despite this.

When you push yourself into territory where the mind starts to doubt, and you don’t have it all figured out, that’s exactly where you need to be.

I feel that life is made of chapters and each chapter calls on us to confront a certain type of work. This work challenges us and participates in the unfolding of our hero’s journey. This is where we learn, stumble, fall, succeed, struggle, and balance amongst the cosmic wave of whatever it is we’re doing.

The chapter you’re in could contain a new type of work that you’ve never done before. And so you’re learning how to work with this new area of practice. Or perhaps your chapter calls on you to finally be consistent with a work that you’ve known for years and years. It’s the element of consistency that is the novelty. And this chapter calls on you to finally commit.

This is where you need to be the fool. You have to be willing to learn and embrace the unknown.

It becomes a fun challenge when you see that life is conspiring to help you. This is in service for yourself, as well as those around you. You might not know exactly how this journey will carry out the plan, but you don’t need to know. The calling is enough of a reason to pursue it.

Your progress lies in the actions that life is calling on you to take. And each step is right there before you. All you have to do is take it. Move in the direction your heart is guiding you towards.

Remember, it’s okay to not have it all figured out.

David Bowie says that artists should find that part in the ocean shore where we can barely touch the bottom. It’s like we’re bouncing on the sand. This is indeed the place of magic. This is where you push yourself. It’s those little hops you take which move you into the space of the unknown, the floating state. You’ll never know what you’ll find there unless you go there.

You are the fool that’s bouncing with faith, and trusting that the ocean has your best interest.

When you approach your journey with this mindset, you are boundless. You are willing to take on any fear and obstacle which tests your courage – The courage of the fool.

Whatever type of work that life is calling on you embrace at this point of your life, face it with certainty.

Not necessarily a certainty in outcomes and details, but a certainty in yourself. The type of certainty that states, “This is exactly what I must do. I know this. And so I will face it.”

Go do it, and be a fool.
