I find it so fascinating how we can have an incredible day or experience where we feel so happy, and excited, and joyful whether it’s because of the people we’re with, the series of events that transpire in the day, the things we’re doing, or the celebration we’re having, and then sort of forget it the next day or the days after.
We don’t entirely forget it, of course, because we’ll always have the memory of it. And when we think of it maybe we smile, or laugh, or just feel happy inside. And I suppose that’s the power of practicing gratitude consciously. You think about things that have happened before which remind you that you have experienced blessings.
But we forget those special days and moments to the extent that, after waking up the next day, we are immediately seeking more. Or seeking the next thing that will bring us comfort. Or just moving on in a manner where our mood depends upon the next source of joy.
And listen, I believe life is about joy. That is why we’re here on this planet. To experience love and joy, and share our gifts so that we may be able to help others experience joy as well.
And when we experience that special joy on those special days, ones that particularly stand out from the week or month or year, I believe we should use those memories as reminders that things are good. Things are not just good when you’re feeling your best. Things are good, and those special moments highlight that eternal truth.
I love the saying “everything will be okay”. But really what it means, to me, is that things are always okay, it just may not seem that way right now. The reason everything will be okay, is because things are already okay, and they have been. “Okay” does not mean things always feel amazing, and good, and happy, and there’s no pain at all. “Okay” means at peace. “Okay” means things are unfolding the way they should. “Okay” means that there is purpose to pain, and there is a purpose to everything that’s happening.
And in those moments of pain, or heartache, or times that we feel bad, for whatever reason life throws our way, we can use those memories of special joy and special experience to remind ourselves that, if that was possible, then things are okay right now. And things will feel good again.
Good days have come. And I promise you good days are coming.
There’s a priming activity that Tony Robbins does in the morning where he visualizes highlighted moments of his life where he experienced great love and great joy. And he mentally steps into that moment to feel that love again. And it primes the mind to feel those emotions and bring that excitement into the present moment. For anyone who wants a great look into physiological practices and principles relating to mental empowerment, I recommend you check out the work that Tony Robbins has done.
I think the practice of gratitude can look like any form for you, but the important part is to just remember those times where you felt amazing. When I have done that priming activity in the morning, I realize that, with the help of the memories of my life, I am a source for my own excitement and happiness. I can use those memories to remind me of something beautiful about life.
It’s in those incredible experiences where we open a window to Heaven, and that window that can stay open throughout our lives for as long as we choose to leave it open.
And before we wrap up this blog, I’d just like to say that if you notice yourself going about the day in a manner where, like I said before, you’re looking for the next source of comfort. Or you’re just not feeling great because you’re waiting for something to make you feel good. Just remember that other time or day where you experienced something amazing. That is gratitude, my friend.
Trust that the good stuff is coming, because it has come before. And it’s happening right now, just look around.
Try not to chase or attach yourself to an anticipated good day/good time.
Trust that it’s coming. And remember the good stuff that has happened. Let your trust and gratitude in your memories be the foundation for your peace as you go throughout the day.
More good days are coming. Remember this.
